Understanding where the source come from is critical in photography. For photographers, natural and artificial (studio) light are two available sources.

In outdoor photography, light changes constantly. Always consider the angle and intensity of the source as well as its distance to the subject. A thorough understanding of natural light will help you control the brightness in your images. Moreover, understanding this important element in photography helps to create and recreate many different effects in a studio environment.

Most photographers are interested in portrait lighting but do not understand how to do it. Same concepts can be used with flash unites, however you will not be able to see the effect until after shooting it. In order for you to control the harshness of the light, you need to practice. Wrong technique will result in narrow or round face. There are four main styles of lighting namely, broad, short, butterfly and Rembrandt lighting.

The Importance of Temperature In Photography

A photographer must also understand the sun's color scale (color temperature) which is the actual colors that human eye can see. Color temperature defines visible light. It is measured in Kelvin (K) degrees. Yellow to red are called warm colors, blue to white are called cool colors (see Color temperature).

If you observe carefully, the sun evokes hues in the morning and neutral colors during the afternoon. These neutral colors occupy a part of the definition you'd like to include in your photographs. Afternoon offers warmer tones with reds and yellows.

The Importance of Angle

The sun is the source of all daylight. The angle or its direction can bring plenty of shadows or remove them. The day light changes throughout the day creating two main light effects: hard and soft light. These two sources are also used in studio photography.

Hard Light

Simply means director bright sunlight. It is equivalent to the brightest time during the day when the sky is clear. It is harsh and could be used for amazing effects. This method is used for contrast as it results in more definition and shadow. The angle of this technique determines the overall effects.

How Use Your Photos To Create Unique Valentines Gifts?

Choosing valentine's gifts can be much more difficult than choosing birthday or Christmas presents because of the weight of symbolism attached to them. Rather than just being an object or item which you think the other person will enjoy, they are deliberately selected to purvey a message of love and affection. Rather than going through the stress and turmoil of trying to find a gift which perfectly fits the bill, why not create your own in the form of a bespoke photo book.

The art of choosing suitable Valentine's Day gift ideas lies in selecting something which is clearly deeply personal in nature. On this day more than any other it's not about the amount of money you spend or the size and lavishness of the gift, it's a question of putting in enough time and thought to give something which is perfectly suited to the recipient and to the sentiment which you wish to express. After all, Valentine's gifts are given with the express purpose of letting your other half know exactly how much you feel for them, and so have to be romantic and personal in nature. Whilst the right piece of jewellery or a favourite box of chocolates may seem nice, they are also somewhat clichéd and demonstrate that you've tended to opt for the first thing you thought of, rather than really weighing up just what the other person means to you.

Of course, Valentine's gifts for him are likely to be different to Valentine's gifts for her, since a man's idea of a romantic gift might be somewhat different from a woman's. It's a sweeping generalisation, but most men would probably prefer a gift which, as well as being attractive and meaningful is also somewhat practical in nature. In both cases, however, the most valued and touching gifts will be those which are deeply personal in nature, which reflect both your own personality and that of the person you're giving it to. One way to ensure this personal touch would be to fashion your own gift, but many people balk at this suggestion on the grounds that nothing they could make would be of sufficiently high quality. Indeed, unless you are a trained a qualified craftsman of some sort, the chances of being able to make something which matches the manufacturing standards of a gift you'd buy in the valentines shop are pretty slim. There's a way around this problem, however, and it's a path which has been opened up by the widespread take up of digital photography.
Digital images, once they've been captured, can be turned into many different objects, from key rings to canvas prints. These objects will all be personal on account of the image which is featured, whilst still being put together to the highest possible standard using top of the range materials. A photo book is a perfect example of a gift which is both highly personal but also of luxurious quality.

Take a look at the photo books on sale in a bookshop and you'll instantly note the excellence of the way they're put together: rich, glossy photographic paper, state of the art printing and expensive binding combine to produce an item which is of genuinely high quality. The same is true of a book which you put together using your own digital images. When you want to give a gift which sends a message of love and affection, what could be better than a volume which chronicles your relationship in images or, if you're in the early stages of wooing someone, a book which features images of the places and things you'd like to share with them.

How Promote Your Wedding Photography Business On Facebook?

This is the perfect time to start a wedding photography business. The Internet makes it possible for anyone to work anywhere now. You don't need an office or a big fancy desk. You don't need a complicated phone system or office equipment. Everything can be done with a laptop and an Internet connection. You can even use the Internet and Facebook to promote your wedding photography business.

The first thing you need to do is set up a Facebook Fan page for your business. This gives all your followers a place to come to and find out what's happening. You can include all kinds of information on your Fan page - albums of your favorite shots, special offers or discounts, or invitations to events like bridal shows or glamor shoots. Whenever you post something on your wall, everyone who's following you will see it.

Next, start following all your friends and family members and then start looking for people you know who live in your area. Follow everyone you can think of and chances are most of them will follow you back.

You can also use the search box to look for people and business in your area and you can use the link marked 'Tell Your Friends' to import the contacts on your email lists. It's best to contain your search to your local area.

Now, you want to start bringing people to your Fan Page so they can see what's going on with your business.

    * Put a link to your Fan Page in your email signature.
    * If you have a website or blog make sure you have a link to your Fan Page.
    * Ask the people who are already following your page to share it with their friends.
    * Include the link on your business cards and stationery.
    * If you belong to any other online sites include the link in your profile.
    * If you have a Twitter account send the link out in your Tweets.
    * Put the link in your YouTube videos.
    * Any time you post something anywhere online make sure you include a link to your Fan Page.

Why is Facebook so important? Because more than 700 million people visit the site every day. It's where people hang out now to chat and exchange information. When one person 'likes' something it spreads to all their friends, and then spreads to all their friends' friends and so on.

6 Tips For Taking Good Digital Photos

Taking great digital photos isn't about the camera you use, it all has to do with the photographer. So, how do you learn to get the best shots possible with a digital camera? Follow these great tips:

1. Get to know your camera.

Even the most basic digital point-and-shoot cameras have a range of modes and features to help you get great shots. You'll want to thumb through your camera's user manual to help you find everything, but the best way to get to know your camera is to simply experiment. Take pictures in different lighting conditions, on different settings, with different modes, and both staged and candid, to get a feel for how your camera performs in certain situations. Take lots of photos and toy around for a while. Photography is a tactile art, so you have to learn by doing.

2. Always use the best lighting possible.

Natural light can greatly enhance your digital photos without you ever doing a thing, but it's not always available. If you're shooting outdoors, try to avoid times when there will be harsh shadows or lots of glare, unless you're specifically going for that effect. Indoors, use lots of white light if you can use natural light. Lighting can make or break a photo whether you use a digital or analog camera.

3. Be prepared for anything!

No one wants to run out of battery life or memory just before the perfect shot shows up. To avoid this, carry an extra memory card and fresh batteries wherever you take your camera. Staying informed and prepared will help prevent missed shots.

4. Experiment.

Once you know all the settings to your camera, it's time to experiment. Take photos of everything, from people to buildings to bugs, at all kinds of angles and in different lights. You never know what great digital photos you'll end up with, and you may also discover a love of certain techniques you never imagined. Also, look at professional photos. Study the angles, the lighting, the subject and background, and try to emulate the methods you love best.

5. Keep your camera steady.

Too many amateur photographers hold their cameras the wrong way, leading to blurry photos and bad angles. You should hold your camera with both hands, steadying yourself on something solid, like a fence, desk or wall, to get clear shots. If necessary, use a tripod to keep your camera from jiggling while you take photos.

6. Take as many photos as you can!

Even pros take hundreds of shots when they only need a few great ones. The more digital photos you take, the more likely you are the get that perfect one, because there are always flukes no matter how well you set the shot. It will take time, but eventually you'll start to get a feel for how many photos you need to take of each subject.

Five Composition Photography Tips

In order to enhance the impact of your scene, there are various composition guidelines that you may apply in most situations. These guidelines are designed to enable you to take more compelling photographs with natural balance, so as to draw attention to the most important parts of your scene. Below are some basic photography tips in composition.

1. The Rule of Thirds

The rule of thirds states that the most important elements in your scene should be positioned along the vertical and horizontal lines that divide your image into equal segments, or at their points of intersection. Be sure to apply the rule of thirds so as to add balance and interest to your photo. Certain cameras provide you with the option of superimposing a rule of thirds grid over your LCD screen, which makes it much easier to use.

2. Balancing Elements

When you place your main subject off-centre with the aim of creating a photo that is much more interesting, this could leave a void in your scene, which could in turn make it feel empty. Be sure to include another object of lesser importance to fill up the space and thereby balance the weight of your subject.

3. Leading Lines

Our eyes are naturally drawn along lines when we look at a photo. It is therefore important to think about how to place the lines in your composition, as these may affect the way in which we view the image. This could have the effect of pulling us towards the subject and into the picture, or taking us on a journey through the scene. To enhance the composition of your photo, you may use various types of lines including the diagonal, straight, radial, zigzag and curvy.

4. Symmetry and Patterns

All around us, there is symmetry, whether natural or manmade. Symmetry is a great element for creating an eye-catching composition, especially in situations in which symmetry is not expected. Alternatively, you may introduce tension and a focal point to your scene by breaking up the pattern or symmetry.

5. Viewpoint

The viewpoint is where you shoot your subject from. Your viewpoint is important as it can have a great impact on the photo's composition, thereby greatly affecting the message your shot is supposed to convey. Instead of always shooting from eye level, you could photograph your subject from high above, the back, the side, very close up, a long distance away or even down at ground level.

Editing and Printing Digital Photographs

Digital photography Tutorials

A primary benefit of digital photography is a person may make modifications to your images prior to printing as well as exhibiting. There are lots of software applications that will permit you to achieve this, some photograph album applications enables easy touch ups, whilst more advanced applications provide more diversified enhancing freedom and much more high quality outcomes. The vast majority of applications offer help options coupled with guides to help you with these procedures plus more.

The Basics.

Typical modifications to images would be the removal of red-eye, that numerous applications will do with a quick mouse click, and also the elimination of an undesired object from the picture, such as a wayward person or even unwelcome vehicle etc - this is what's called cloning, in which the application samples one particular portion of the picture to interchange another. Using areas of the initial image, the colors and also structure are exactly the same, therefore effects are sufficiently good to trick pretty much anyone. A further typical touchup is usually to alter the quantity of light which had been readily available the moment the image was first obtained, basically, modifying how vivid several colours are with regards to some others, and just how vibrant the whole picture appears overall. For instance, this could make a darkish shot appear lighter, or even dreary photo more dazzling.

Fine-tuning your horizon

The next basic correction that could be created would be to turn the image so the horizon or alternatively subjects shot look straight. This is more than merely spinning the whole picture Ninety degrees, through landscape and portrait, but rather straightening the image in order that it appears level. Due to the point of view in the image, it might not be easy to get all things level at the same time, therefore you ought to utilize horizon as a ruler, or maybe use a prominent item within the picture, such as a particular person or alternatively structure, and use this for a guide.

Cropping images.

This is a second highly effective editing and enhancing tool, particularly with more recent digital cameras which have more significant image resolution (supplying you with a greater resource image for you to use). Cropping cuts away undesirable areas of your image so you have the various components you would like to keep. This will often end up with a major effect about the image, because you can alter the balance, structure and also 'theatre' of your image, for instance, in a picture where the topic area had been centered, you may crop away much more on one side to line up items with the concept of thirds, or eliminate portions of the backdrop, such as a structure, bush or maybe wayward individual. You can even crop an image to alter it from portrait to landscape, ultimately causing a far more fascinating image compared to one you initially acquired.

Printing your finished work of genius

One particular by-product from the digital photography trend is the fact photography enthusiasts don't have to depend on conventional roll film processing and darkrooms to savor their own pictures. Comprehending the connection concerning digital camera quality coupled with final printing dimensions will help you come up with decisions on which images are the most effective to print, and the way to start printing them. Everyday snapshot pictures can be created with photos which are Two to three mps, however you will usually need a higher image resolution in order to produce bigger pictures.

Conventional printing

Luckily for us, the majority of conventional roll film image printing companies offer printing services for digital camera owners. For taking benefit from these types of services, you've versatile options: leave merely the storage device or stick, take in your complete digital camera, make a duplicate of your images on a Compact disc, or deliver them digitally over the web, skipping the queues, the delay and a lot of the headache. These types of services enable you to both purchase the subsequent pictures at the shop or alternatively get them sent via post. Sending pictures digitally is definitely a hassle-free choice if you are considering carrying out a large amount of editing and enhancing of the images (to crop, or maybe perfect for colors, and so forth) just before getting them all printed out. You may select from numerous providers, including Shutterfly or Yahoo and google to mention but a few with increased choices to select from and much better prices if you are prepared to do the job purely via the internet.

Home printing

A further handy alternative, which may deliver high quality looking results, would be to basically print images in your own home. Thankfully, lots of regular ink jet printers have moved into the marketplace mixing both day-to-day use with professional image publishing functionality. If you decide to print pictures at your home with a color ink jet, make sure you utilize the specific photographic printing cardstock, because that will have a big influence on the ultimate outcome, using the correct devices, there may be very little distinction between printing at home and printing by using specialist conventional image printing providers.

How Long Exposure Trick Photography Is Used to Do Light Paintings?

Light paintings are one of the more stunning examples of long exposure trick photography. You're literally painting with light. You use a camera to take a long exposure photograph, and then move a bright light source around it. Also, just like a magic trick, consider this a spoiler warning if you want to continue to be baffled by how light paintings are made.

The trick is that the bright light acts as your brush, so you have the freedom to move it around and create interesting shapes or even form words in front of the camera. Or you could move the camera instead. If you're feeling particularly brave you could actually toss and spin your camera in the air. You could get very beautiful light paintings with a bit of patience and creative uses of light and colors. There are people dedicated to taking light paintings by tossing their cameras, and the results are often spectacular.

When you use long exposure (also known as time exposure) photography, stationary objects appear still and in sharp focus while moving objects creates blurring and smearing. Long exposures are easier to do in low-light conditions otherwise you'll need very bright lights or specially designed equipment and cameras.

Because of this, light paintings are often done in the dark. The other side effect of low-light conditions is that fast moving objects can literally disappear from the image. This leads to interesting situations where you can photograph a still object in long exposure mode, and then run in front of the camera with a bright light to do your light painting. If you move fast enough and your clothes doesn't reflect much light, you will not be seen in the photo. You will only see the still object and a trail of the bright light. This explains why you can only see headlight and taillight trails but not the individual cars in pictures of highways or roads during night-time.

This is actually very important for light paintings because you don't want to see the "painter" in the photo. The illusion of light trails appearing or hovering around your subject without any clues as to what made it just make the picture that bit more magical.

During the daytime long exposure photography are less commonly used. The most familiar pictures of daytime long exposure pictures are those of waterfalls. Long exposures blur the moving water so it has mist-like qualities while keeping stationary objects like the trees and rocks in sharp focus.

Getting Schooled on Digital Photography and Proper Editing

No matter how much digital photography technology leaps forward, it still matters who is taking the pictures and how well they are edited. The way that colors mix and blend in the Photoshop world can be artistically scrutinized and perfected, but only with the right training and constant practice.

There are a multitude of websites out there that focus on digital photography and technique, and recently I journeyed through all of them I could find to clean up the faded massacre that is my portrait collection. It seems that no matter how much money I invest in high-end cameras, I still lack the artistic flair to capture the essence of the moment, and then touch it up properly before posting it to my portfolio.

As was bound to happen, the victims in each picture each took the opportunity to voice the need for some basic photography training and tips. Amazingly most of what I was lacking in the way of tricks, tips, and education was and is available at very little cost via online tutorials. I tried watching multiple free sessions on the usual video clip sites, but found the training to be too fragmented, and lacking in time spent in critical areas such as touching up portraits and basic editing.

Surprisingly, the sites that truly have the most comprehensive tutorials "mix-and-match" their offerings between free information, and paid seminars and classes online. I experimented with a handful of these for a week and found much joy in sites which assimilate the tutorials in such a way where you can follow along with your own photographs and Photoshop files, making the learning more meaningful and fun.

Courses that offer the gamut of Photoshop and digital photography are easy to find, but whether you are a gifted professional that needs to brush up on your editing skills, or a flawed camera junkie like myself, you would be well served to invest in a program in which most of the ongoing information is free. I don't mind paying a small sum for the classes if the ongoing tutoring doesn't nickel-and-dime me to death.

Tips For Taking Family Portraits

Family Portraits fall into three main categories; traditional family portraits, candid family portraits and lifestyle family portraits.

Most families have had their picture taken, but few have had a chance to have their portrait shot, because of the difference between the two. One is a quick snap, with little attention given to the technical aspects of the image; the other has more consideration given to how the final result should look.

It's often said that a good portrait captures the personality of the subject(s), and that's true, but what it also does is record the subject(s) in a way that's different from other pictures they've had taken of themselves. By using a couple of simple techniques - anyone can move from the realm of 'snapshots' to discovering how to deliver distinctive family portraits.

Capturing Expressions

An essential for a successful family portrait? Expression. Capturing expressions portrays emotion and adds dynamics to the photograph. Portraits can be left feeling incomplete without capturing the expressions that make the image more engaging. While traditional family portraits are posed (think school pictures), I feel expressions are best captured 'un-posed' in a candid portrait setting.

Some great tips on how to do this include avoiding using flash when possible and shooting from a distance. This isn't to say that all successful family portraits are shot on a whim. It simply means that developing a rapport is important. Actively involve yourself in directing the subject(s) to pose naturally and comfortably - and you'll find it can achieve a great deal!

Creating a Candid Look When Posing Subjects

Whether taking individual portraits or group photos, creating a candid look is a great way to create a different type of image. Get them laughing - engaging people in a friendly, open manner will get you those shots where the subjects have stopped being self conscious!

Another easy way to achieve a great looking candid shot that has been posed is to have your subject(s) look away from the camera. This type of 'casual candid' posing can also be used in larger group shots. Having everyone look at each other can create a unified mood to the photograph, a connection that the viewer can sense.

Photographing Children:

Props are also a great tool to utilize when photographing children. A child's honest reactions to their immediate environment make them the very best candid portrait subjects. Even when aware of the camera's attention - candid shots from children shine!

Seven Tips for Taking Spooktacular Halloween Photos

Kids dressed in costume, glowing jack-o-lanterns, festive decorations-- Halloween is full of rich, evocative imagery, and a well-captured photograph can preserve its spooky feelings forever. Halloween photography can present some unique challenges to the inexperienced photographer. Here are some tips to help you capture your Halloween memories forever.

1. Turn off the Flash

In the low light settings that are common around Halloween, you may be tempted to turn on the flash for every picture. Don't! The flash can wash out details, create unsightly glares, and otherwise ruin the spooky atmosphere. There are other, better ways to handle dark settings...

2. Turn Down Your Camera's ISO

The ISO setting on your camera controls how sensitive it is to light. This is a vital setting when taking Halloween photos, because you will often find yourself trying to take pictures in poor lighting conditions. When the ISO is turned up, the camera is more light-sensitive, but it can make pictures turn out grainy, which is undesirable. Instead, turn the ISO down as low as it can go to eliminate any graininess, and slow down your shutter speed. Shutter speed controls how long the camera's shutter is open; the longer it is, the more light can get in. The only downside to this method is that it is very easy to blur your photograph, which leads into the next tip...

3. Use a Tripod

Using a tripod will eliminate any camera shake, allowing you to take crisp Halloween photos in the darkest of locations. If you do not have a tripod, you can use a stack of boxes, a tree stump, or any other flat, sturdy object. If nothing like that is available, then you will have to rely on your own steady hand, which can prove tricky. Find something to lean on for support, keep your elbows in, and relax. Allow yourself to breathe naturally. If you are tense, you are more likely to shake and blur the picture.

4. Use Your Camera's Timer

When you push the button to snap the picture, that action naturally causes some camera shake. To eliminate this, use your camera's timing feature. After pushing the button, you will have a few seconds to get the camera steady again.

5. Try an Unexpected Angle

There is no easier way to take a boring Halloween photograph than to center your subject and snap the picture head on. Experiment with different angles. Shooting from below can make your subject look intimidating; turning the camera slightly can result in an off-kilter, out of control feeling that is perfect for Halloween.

6. Use the Rule of Thirds

In case you have never heard of it, the Rule of Thirds means you divide your picture into nine rectangles using a pair of evenly spaced vertical lines, and a pair of evenly spaced horizontal lines. Placing your subject at the intersections of those lines will result in a composition that is more interesting and pleasing to the eye.

7. Edit Your Photograph

Let's face it, no matter how well you took the original shot, you will most likely find something that could be improved. That is where photo editing software like Adobe Photoshop comes in handy. You can use your program of choice to alter the brightness or contrast, or to adjust the colors. When editing your Halloween photo, remember that subtlety is paramount. Do not go overboard with adjustments, or your picture will look over-processed and fake.

The Best Professional Photography Techniques

In order to turn pro, beginners in photography need to learn how to read a photograph, as well as certain professional photography techniques. Below are some popular professional photography techniques.

1. High Dynamic Range

HDR photography allows for greater dynamic range of exposures. This is the range of values between the dark and light areas. This range is greater than the standard digital imaging and photography techniques. HDR is in fact more of a post processing technique that includes overlapping your shots with the same subject in three exposure brackets: under-exposed, normal and over-exposed. This effect can be achieved with Photoshop to enable you to more accurately represent the wide range of intensity levels that you find in real scenes.

2. High-Speed Photography

High speed photography involves capturing images with a remarkably fast shutter speed. With high speed photography, the photographer is able to take advantage of the ability of the faster shutter speed to freeze action and eliminate motion blur. When taking photos at high speed, you will require a combination of bright lighting, wide apertures and a well adjusted camera ISO speed. Your camera also requires a sensor with good sensitivity and a very good shutter system or an equally fast strobe light.

3. Bokeh Photography

Bokeh photography involves producing out of focus and blur areas in your image that are subjectively pleasing. This is achieved by toying around with the focus and the way your lens renders out of focus points of light. This effect will typically occur in those sections of the scent that light outside the depth of field. With a shallow focus technique, you can create a prominent background that is out of focus, such that your subject is able to stand out. Bokeh is best seen in a close up picture of a subject taken in nice clear lighting. The extent of bokeh that you produce in your shot will depend on the varying depths of field, lens designs, aberrations, as well as the shape of your lens aperture.

4. Soft Focus Photography

Soft focus photography is achieved through the use of a special lens that creates soft outlines in an image that is slightly blurry but retains its sharp edges. This is a dreamy glamorous style of photography that is widely used in fashion and wedding photos. Some modern cameras are equipped with settings that enable you to create these soft focus effects in your shots.

How to Do Product Photography

A great photograph of a product you are trying to sell, is a must.

With the use of digital photography, various people all over the world are provided with the opportunity to immortalize moments and immortalize objects that may deteriorate over time. Also, product photography is constantly growing in popularity as per the fact that digital cameras are easily available throughout the market. With the combination of light, focus, and shutter speeds, acquiring the perfect photo is simple for both beginners and veterans. Below is a product photography "how to" that will help you to achieve the perfect look for your perfect photograph.

1. Sharp Images

The most important aspect to product photography is to ensure that your images are sharp and properly focused. Learning how to focus your camera (whether it be automatic or manual) can prove to be an exponentially beneficial area to delve into. All digital cameras that are on the market today come with an auto focus feature that is usually presented on a dial on the top of the camera. If you are a photographer who prefers to use generic SLR's rather than DSLR's, you will have to manually focus the images yourself.

2. Tripod

Depending on the size of your lens, you may have to zoom in on a particular object in order to bring forth all of the detail. Taking an extremely sharp photograph can prove to be difficult if you have shaky hands due to the fact that once a camera is zoomed in, even the slightest movement can blur your image. Finding an inexpensive tripod will provide you with the ability to steady the camera easily and efficiently so that no motion blurs occur.

3. Natural Lighting/Soft Lighting

Every digital camera comes equipped with either a built-in flash or an attachable flash. Although these methods of light production can prove to be beneficial in low lighting situations, harnessing the power of natural lighting/soft lighting can prove to be more beneficial. Natural lighting brings out all of the delicate details of an object which is why it is more preferable. Consider shooting during the day time or when the sun is at its peak in order to acquire the best quality image.

With its growing popularity, product photography is practiced throughout the world on a regular basis. With the proper control of light, focusing, and steadiness you can achieve a professional looking photo with minimal effort.

The Best People Photography Techniques

There are two types of people photographs: the portrait shot and the candid shot. Both of these can be made with or without the cooperation or awareness of your subject. Below are some people photography techniques to get you started.

When taking photos of people it's important to always keep in mind composition elements to enable you to effectively convey your message. This rule stands irrespective of how far or near your subject is, or how distant or intimate the gaze of your camera is. When taking a photograph of a person, try and get as physically close as you possibly can, although this is not always recommended for nude photography techniques. Remember that your viewer will be able to sense when your subject is small as you intended or because you were simply too shy to get close enough. In most cases, when you approach someone in the proper way, they will be happy to have you take their photo. Break the ice with some jokes and explain to them why you want to take their picture.

Choose the right setting for your people photography, as this will help your viewer to better understand your subject. Your choice of setting should be able to provide the viewer with information about your subject as well as tell them something about the subject's life. For instance, you could have your subject pose in their own home, office, city streets where they often walk or at their favorite relaxation spot. However, avoid including too much setting such that your subject ends up seeming lost in it. There should be sufficient balance between the setting and your subject such that the former simply aids your image rather than taking it over.

When taking candid photographs of people otherwise occupied with their business, avoid them appearing as if they are aware of the camera. This is one of the useful photography tips for wedding guest. The final image should have your viewer feel as if they are receiving an unguarded glimpse into the scene - as if they were a fly on the wall. To achieve this, you will need to be as unobtrusive as possible. Find a good spot where you can sit or stand and still have a good enough view of the scene. Thereafter, wait patiently for all the elements of your shot to come together. It's easy to achieve such a scene with a long lens and by standing a distance away from your subject. Alternatively, simply stand there long enough such that the people stop paying attention to you, and then take your shot.

Trick Photography and Special Effects Techniques

If you're ready to take your photography skills to the next level and have fun, read on to discover the different trick photography and special effects techniques that you can instantly use. We'll cover 3 of the more common trick photography and special effects techniques as they require very little extra effort to get started.

Most of these techniques won't require you to buy any special equipment. You can get started with any decent digital camera (preferably a DLSR) and a tripod for night time photography. As for trick photography software, you need at least a good photo editing software like Adobe Photoshop or a free alternative like Gimp. Once you get the hang of it and your skills improve, you can consider investing in higher-end cameras and special effects software. But enough about hardware and software, onwards to the techniques!

Forced perspective photography

If you've seen pictures of the Leaning Tower of Pisa taken by tourists, you'll definitely have come across forced perspective photos. These usually depict people "pushing" the tower with their bare hands. This is probably the most overused trick photography technique for that landmark.

Forced perspective employs optical illusion through clever positioning of the photographer and the subject matter. So to achieve that effect you position yourself nearer to the camera so you look bigger than the tower from the point of view of the camera, and you hold up your hands while the photographer adjust their position to line up your hands against the wall perfectly to create the illusion of you "pushing" the tower.

There are endless variation you can try to create interesting photos, such as making yourself look taller than a building, holding up a person with your bare hands, interact with an impossibly large object, and more.

Long exposure photography

Long exposure trick photography techniques are usually taken at night or under low-light conditions. Basically you set the shutter speed of your camera to a longer duration so you get sharp details of stationary elements in your images while blurring, smearing, or obscuring the moving elements. You need a tripod when attempting long exposure photography to get clear and crisp images.

The most common examples you might have seen are night-time city street photos with those surreal long streaks of light made by passing car headlamps. Other common examples are pictures of the skies during night time where you can see the trails of stars. Or you can also have fun creating light paintings where you can "paint" a picture with a bright light source against a dark scene to create spectacular and vivid images.

Tilt-shift photography

Tilt-shift photography literally refers to the tilting and shifting of the camera lens to achieve selective focus. This technique is more commonly known for creating miniature versions of real life images. Certain part of the image is in very sharp focus, but other regions are gradually blurred. This creates the illusion that the people or cars inside the image look like miniature toys.

You'll need to get special camera lens with tilt and shift capabilities, but you can also fake this effect using software. In fact, this technique has recently become so popular that you can install software apps on your smartphone to automatically produce the fake miniature images you take using your smartphone's camera directly.

How to Read a Photograph

One of the important tips for digital photography is to learn how to read a photograph. It is important to take some time to look at a photo and allow yourself to get lost in it. This way, you are able to evaluate what the photographer wanted to communicate in their shot.

To begin, take note of your initial impressions of the shot. What does the photo say to you? Allow yourself to take all the elements in the photo collectively and then set your observations aside for a moment. As you take in more specific details, you are likely to be surprised that your initial impressions weren't that accurate to begin with.

Next, you should evaluate the content. What time of the day was the photo taken? What was the occasion? Where is the setting of the shot? If there are different cultures involved, all these questions will give you answers that influence the story that the photo is communicating.

Take a look at the people in the photo, how close they are and their body language in relation to one another. Is there anything being said between you the viewer and the subject? Is the picture communicating any emotions to you? Does it leave you with any particular feeling?

Focus on subtle details in the photo as these can sometimes make a dynamic impact on your message. Take a look at the hand gestures and the direction of the gazes of your subjects. Try and get a sense of what all these details are trying to communicate to you about the image. A powerful photo will typically draw you in and make you a participant rather than leave you simply as a viewer. Evaluate how the view of the photo influences your impressions and how you feel about it.

Go further than the simple direction your eye is led to. In what direction does the photo take you? Or does it in fact just leave you right where you are? Evaluate how all the details and subtleties of the image merge to support the overall idea or message of the shot. What thoughts does the image in totality inspire in you? What conclusions do they lead you to draw about the photo?

Trick Photography Ideas for Taking Levitation Photography In-Camera

If you're like most people, you might have dreamed of flying and floating around in the air effortlessly. Some people have dreams of flying around in the living room or the house they live in, while others might travel vast distances and visit other cities, countries, or even outer space. That feeling of freedom is alluring to all of us. Some of us dream about it, some of us go out and build airplanes, and some of us recreate that feeling with trick photography.

Levitation photos are a kind of trick photography that usually depicts people and objects floating in the air. They defy the force of gravity with no real explanation on what is keeping them up. It looks and feels magical to the observer, and leaves you wondering, "How did they create these photos?"

The truth is that most levitation photography are created and digitally manipulated using photo-editing software like Adobe Photoshop. You can create really stunning levitation pictures with advanced Photoshop skills and plenty of creative imagination. But there are also people out there who create this kind of trick photography in-camera. The levitation effect is achieved in real-life without resorting to digital cut and paste. Just like being told that no trick photography is used in a great magic trick shown on television, there is a certain sense of curiosity and amazement when one is told that a levitation photo is done without Photoshop.

Spoiler alert. The simplest way to levitate in a photograph is to jump, fall, or hide the elements that are holding up the levitating person or object. How convincing your levitation photography is depends on your execution. So here are some levitation trick photography ideas you can try at home or outdoors!

Minimize motion blur

You need to make sure there are no motion blur on the levitating subject that can spoil the illusion, unless you want it there for an artistic expression. Depending on your camera, set a high shutter speed or sports mode to freeze your jumps. Use a tripod to steady your camera as well. Some cameras can be triggered with a wireless remote control, which will help you tremendously if you're attempting it alone. Otherwise you can set the self-timer and get in position.

Nonchalant pose

This is somewhat common but looks really cool to those who haven't seen it before. The idea is to pose in a way that looks very ordinary and relaxed in mid-jump. It looks like it doesn't take any effort, and you don't even notice you're doing it. Try to fit the pose to the correct location, like standing and waiting at a bus stop with other people. Everyone else is standing on solid ground, except you.

Unusual pose

How unusual your pose really depends on your physical body dexterity, if you still commit to doing it in-camera. Unless you can hide the props that are holding you up from the camera view, you'll need to remove it digitally later. The more outrageous the pose you could pull off, the more surreal the levitation looks. If you happen to have friends in gymnastics, Parkour, or breakdancing then you could ask them to pull off some moves for you.

Use props to enhance the effect

A lot of levitation and trick photography include the use of props. Levitation pictures done with Photoshop often include other levitating elements like clothing and shoes. These are digitally inserted or tinkered with to enhance the effect. This doesn't stop us from trying to insert it in-camera as well. When you're jumping, you can ask someone outside the field of view of the camera to toss shoes below your bare feet. With luck and proper timing, the pictures looks as though your shoes are coming off your feet as you rise into the air. Another idea is to hang the objects in the air with a very thin and transparent string. Think outside of the box, and you can come up with neat ideas to fit props into your picture.

Each Camera Lens Serves Its Own Purpose

Whether you are a seasoned photographer or if you are just starting out, it is important that your camera has the right lens. When looking for that perfect lens you need to keep in mind what you want your final image to look like after the shot. Different lenses do different things, for instance, some can compress the background in your image, can make the scene look wider or show the tiniest of details that generally go unnoticed upon first glance. Some of the lens options you can find will include zoom lenses, ones that have a fixed focal length and then of course specialty lenses that are macro or fish eye.

The zoom lens are used by many photographers to get up close and personal with their subject without having to physically move in on the subject. These are often used for wildlife scenes and very often in sporting events. You can choose from ranges such as 70-200 mm, 100 to 400 mm or 200 to 500 mm in order to capture a variety of different kinds of close up shots that can focus on a subject as well as compress the background of the shot to a soft blur.

You can use the wide angle lens to help create shots that are in narrow spaces. For example take a large family group shot in a small living room and you can get wall to wall coverage of the entire family with the wide angle lens. You can pick from a fixed focal length like a 24 mm or 35 mm or you can go for a wide angle zoom lens that can be found in 17 to 35 mm and 21 to 35 mm.

If you need to take a photo that is extremely sharp then you would want to use a fixed focal length lens. You can pick from 200 mm, 300 mm or the 500 mm for your subject that is rather far away. Pick from the 24 mm, 35 mm or 70 mm fixed focal length for those subjects that are only a few feet away from your camera.

If you are interested in getting close up details of small objects like the veins in a leaf on a plant or other small objects then you would want to use the macro lens. You can manually rotate this lens by using the focusing ring to make the images look a lot sharper in a close up shot and to get all the tiny details you are looking for. You can pick from the more common ones as the 70 mm or the 135 mm.

Now, if you are looking to distort a scene and to capture a wide almost panoramic view say of an outdoor scene or a crowd scene you are going to want to try using the fish eye lens to accomplish this. You can pick a 10 mm, a 12 mm or a 14 mm lens if you are taking shots of things that are wider than an 180 degree overall view.

Ten Tips to Becoming a More Accomplished Photographer

One of my friends was asking me about my photography and asking how I got started, and so I decided to write a top 10 list of things to help you become a more accomplished photographer. I hope there is something in here that proves useful to you!

1) Love. Love your camera no matter what its spec, age or make. A camera's only as good as the photographer.

2) Equipment. Take your camera everywhere; make sure it becomes your new best friend. So you'll never have to say 'I wish I had a camera with me' again. The most amazing photo opportunities are usually the ones you don't expect, look through a few tumblr blogs and you'll see what I mean!

3) Practice. Practice is everything. Don't get disheartened when a picture doesn't turn out how you expected it to take a deep breath and try a new setting. In the age of digital cameras mistakes aren't anything like as expensive to make as they used to be!

4) Remind yourself. Manual camera settings may be frustrating to fully grasp to start with. Get into the habit of writing down some reminders to yourself and keep them in your camera bag.

5) Ask why? Ask 'Why why do I want to take this photograph?' It may be as simple as 'it looks pretty'. But what is it that makes it pretty? Is it the amazing detail in the leaf or is it the way the light strikes the petal? Consciously thinking about these sorts of aspects will improve your photos instantly.

6) Get close up. Don't always just zoom in with the lens, walk up closer to your subject, fill the frame of the camera and your photos will come alive.

7) Lighting. Controlling your lighting is easy and can make or break a photograph. Try using anything from the flash gun to fairy lights to a desk lamp.

8) Share. Learn to share your photography with others. Submit your photos on Flickr, Facebook, twitter or create a blog and you'll find fellow photographers are always eager to help and share their own experiences too.

9) Composition. Have a look at the rules of composition, try following them and watch your photos improve. After you've mastered them, try breaking the rules!

10) Learn. Learning to use your camera to its maximum potential is vital to become a better photographer. Book yourself on to a photography course to help you unlock and understand your cameras manual settings.

Tips For Choosing a Digital Camera

Choosing a Digital Camera

Digital photography Tutorials

The obvious question for consumers when buying a camera is precisely what sort of digital camera should they opt for?To answer this, first we need to look at the average buyer:
Digital camera consumers typically fall under one of 3 primary groups: beginners, enthusiasts and also professional people, and understanding the place you match will assist you to determine exactly what characteristics will be crucial, as well as which kind of digital camera makes 'sense' for your situation. Do you want to simply take a couple of snapshots of friends and family, snap experiences from getaways, or alternatively generate images of the wilderness and panoramas to construct a stock portfolio? Additionally consider precisely how much quality you're prepared to swap out for flexibility, because digital cameras are ranging from big and cumbersome high quality quality Digital slr cameras (Single Lens Reflex) to compact ultra-portable digital cameras, many of which might not actually have a flash.

Digital camera categories

Cameras usually are separated within types: ultra-compact, compact, semi-pro or enthusiast, and digital SLR, and many brands make models in a number of classes in order to seize a lot of markets. At both ends of the span, the ultra-compacts are created to be probably the most convenient, typically fitting within pockets simply and utilized as key rings, whilst the DSLR cameras will be specialist high quality instruments which have the largest selection of choices, including external flashes, lenses as well as tripods (however they are regularly the biggest and most troublesome to transport). The majority of devices fit in the center two classes, with compacts possessing a decent range of quality, image resolution, coupled with selections, and the expert variety including top quality coupled with more significant control over manual selections coupled with gadgets.

Megapixels (mp)

    * Choosing a camera by just the mp rating alone means you can overlook additional options that come with the digital camera, portability, add-ons, a high quality flash, however it is one of the most fundamental factors.

    * Under Three mp digital cameras are suitable for simple photos; the camera will probably be compact and sufficiently good to take on basic snaps, however the photos won't be as distinct if you would like something bigger than common 4x6 pictures.

    * In between Three and Five mp, you can find a good number of every day use and holiday digital cameras, you may fill up the picture albums with images via cameras within this range or alternatively make use of them as desk top imagery, because you will typically find the pictures are good enough you don't require much more and you will be capable of making quality pictures in a range of sizes.

    * From Five to ten mp, one can find more substantial digital cameras for enthusiasts looking to discover digital photography as being a craft or the ones that wish to stay ahead of the curve, the photos will require additional storage space but will work best with manipulation as well as printing out in bigger dimensions.

    * Numerous digital cameras can be found throughout diverse groups with Ten mp or maybe more, of course this sort of image resolution is often overkill with regard to informal day-to-day use. Pick a Ten mp or more resolution digital camera if you're a pro and expect to end up being given money for the shots you sell or deliver, if you want the very best image resolution as you plan to generate substantial enlargements of the images for mounting/framing, if you would like additional cropping choices, or maybe you just require the absolute best in picture quality.

Zoom zoom

Zoom is yet another essential point with DSLR cameras, there's two types of zoom lens: optical zoom as well as digital zoom. The optical zoom aspect is one that will depend on the camera lens itself magnifying the lighting coming in, so what's faraway seems bigger and nearer with the subsequent photo. A digital zoom aspect is one which takes the actual subsequent picture and magnifies it afterwards. Obviously, an optical zoom lens component is far more crucial than the digital zoom component (and also generates higher quality returns).

Media storage

How the photos are saved is definitely a consideration in your choice, as a number of digital camera manufacturers now have proprietary storage space methods which are incompatible with the digital cameras associated with some other brands. A number of typical formats are Compact Flash (a relatively popular format on both compact and specialist equipment), Secure Digital (SD) cards (that are not unusual with small digital cameras because of their more compact dimensions), as well as the new Sony memory stick (exclusive to the new Sony digital cameras, but additionally supported by Sony pcs, tvs, along with other gadgets).

Five Reasons That Make Nikon Bag the Number One Choice

Photographers are almost always with their most important device and that is their Nikon camera. Some invest large amount of money to buy the most sophisticated model in an aim to capture the tiniest of details in the most vivid manner. In the same fashion, they find the most appropriate Nikon bag to store and protect very costly equipment.

The bag has to be easy to carry but durable and strong enough to provide utmost protection. Photographers who pursue subjects that are worth capturing in still images avoid subjecting their cameras to impact and shock. This is why the make and strength of the carrier is important. It has to be functional too to accommodate accessories and other important photography paraphernalia. Removable parts should also be a top feature because this eases up customizing the compartments according to personal preference. This feature is also great when more storage is needed so that you don't need to buy an extra bag. All you have to do is remove a compartment or two.

Below are the top 5 reasons why a Nikon bag is the best camera carrier:

1. Compartments and Pockets

Mostly made with microfiber material for strength, compartments and pockets hold not only your camera but as well as the many accessories that go with it. There is no need for you to leave any essential behind because you can place everything you need for your photo shoot in one bag!

2. Ease of Access

Whether you plan to make lots of quick access during birding trips or leisurely shoot scenic views at your own sweet time, the camera bag has to provide quick access to your gadget and to your accessories. This is one of the best features of a Nikon bag because the makers of the bag understand how precious each picture-perfect moment is and being able to shoot right away is essential. You can also find a bag that features shoulder straps which may be converted to a waist belt.

3. Reliable Strength

It is not simply a matter of providing you a carrier but giving you peace of mind too that the bag can be counted on to carry the weight while providing protection. No photographer wants a bag that has a strap or a base that would suddenly give up on them especially while on the road. With a Nikon bag, all you have to worry about is making sure you are where the subject is at the perfect moment.

4. Wide Array of Choices

No matter what type of Nikon camera you may have, there is a camera carrier that is a perfect fit for it. If you carry with you all sorts of accessories, trust that you can fit them all in one bag. You may also choose two separate bags for convenience purposes or get a backpack so that your hands are free during hiking trips. Whatever type of bag you choose, you can be sure of the same, consistent quality.

5. Price

With designs, features, protective padding and fantastic functionality, you will be surprised that a Nikon bag is not that expensive! For your Nikon cameras, the prices are comparatively a very small price to pay especially with the kind of protection the bags provide. Made of quality nylon and buckles & snaps that are fastened securely, each bag is sturdy and built to last with ample safety features in the right areas.

Tips on How To Become A Professional Photographer

If you think you have what it takes to become a professional photographer, it's about time you took the necessary steps to achieve this dream of yours. Part of this is keeping a journal where you can jot down notes on tricks you would like to try out, inspirations you wish to explore, places you would like to visit, goals you want to attain, seminars and workshops you wish to attend, upcoming exhibits you want to check out, and more. You can paste magazine cut-outs of great snapshots you would like to attempt. You can add clippings of articles, ads, and other things related to your craft.

• Shoot, shoot, shoot. The best way on how to become a professional photographer of top quality is to keep practicing. Shoot as many pictures as you can which are connected to your niche. From time to time, you may try out other kinds of photography too just to make you more versatile and to help you improve your skills. Also be sure to shoot in different conditions--- various times of the day, diverse locations, etc. Just remember to just keep shooting away. Just like other hobbies and careers such as writing and teaching, you need to keep doing it to become better.

• Set goals. If you really want to know how to become a professional photographer, you need to keep reading and listening and participating and learning. Set specific and time-bound goals for yourself each step of the way so you can easily keep track of your progress. Set goals for your professional career too--- fix your portfolio, put up a website, make ads for your photography, volunteer to be an assistant, apply for photography studios and the like, and more.

Four Digital Photography Tips

Ever heard someone say "Digital cameras do all the work. You simply press the button and superb photos amazingly show up." or " The higher quality your camera, the higher quality the actual shots. Isn't that correct?" Erm- no its not!

The reality is that you can create excellent images using a basic disposable camera, or alternatively take awful images with one of the most highly-priced Canon. It isn't the digital camera that creates stunning photos; it is the photo taker. With a bit of understanding along with a determination to make a change every now and again, you may force major pictures from the most basic photographic camera.

To assist you in the future to excellent photo creating, here are some points which will allow you to capture as a professional (without the need all the costly apparatus).

1. Enhance The Colors

Perhaps you have seen that your own photos occasionally possess a cold, clammy look towards them? In that case, it's not just you. The standard white balance function for digital cameras is automatic, and that is acceptable for the majority of shots, although is often somewhat on the "cold" side.

If capturing outdoor photographs as well as sun-drenched panoramas, consider altering your white balance function from automatic to overcast. That's right, overcast. The reason why? This specific change is much like placing a moderate warming filter onto your digital camera. It raises all the yellows and reds producing more potent, gratifying shots.

Unsure?, perform a test. Get a handful of outside images using the white balance at auto, next go ahead and take the same snapshots once more using the setting on overcast. Transfer the photos on your pc and examine all of them next to each other. My prediction would be that you will enjoy the warm photograph far more.

2: Sun glasses as a Polarizing lens!

If you ever genuinely wish to include some impact in your photos, then simply acquire a polarizing filter. A polarizer certainly is the one particular filter any professional must have on hand with regard to panoramas and all round out of doors picture taking. By reduction of glare and undesirable reflections, polarized pictures possess livlier, more condensed shades, particularly in the sky.

What on earth is that you point out? Your own camera cannot cater to filters. Do not lose heart. We have ended up applying this technique for many years by way of the point-and-shoot digital cameras. When you have some good quality sun glasses, then basically remove them and utilize these as the polarizing filter. Put the sunglasses as near on the lens as is possible, then simply look at the placement from the LCD viewfinder to ensure you do not hold the sunglasses inside the picture.

For the very best outcome, place one self to be sure the sunshine is now over either ones left or right shoulder. The actual polarizing result is usually most powerful if the source of light is at a 90-degree perspective from your area of interest.

3. Open-air Photos That will Sparkle

Among the remarkable concealed functions on digital slr cameras is definitely the fill flash or alternatively flash on function. By using power over the flash so that it happens when you like it to, not the moment the digital camera believes this correct, you have just utilized an essential measure towards taking excellent open-air photos.

In flash on setting, the digital camera exposes on your backdrop initially, next brings sufficient flash to light up the picture subject. The outcome is an expert looking image in which all the things with the structure appears great. Professional wedding photographers have used this procedure for decades.

As you get used to making use of the flash outside, use a few variants with this concept by placing the subject hence the sunlight lights up the hair on the side or even the back, sometimes called rim lighting. Another great way is to place the subject in the shade, then utilize the flash to light up the individual. This helps to keep the subject relaxed and chilled without squinty eyes in the hard sunlight, and also this frequently produces a much happier looking picture.

Do not forget, however, that a lot of built-in digital camera flashes have a span of Ten ft (or perhaps significantly less!), therefore ensure you do not take a position past the boundary apart when working with fill flash outside.

4. Macro Function Mayhem

Recall being a child uncovering the entire " new world " below your toes when playing upon the lawn? Once you got near the earth, you would discover a large neighborhood of critters that you simply didn't know was there.

Nowadays, you may possibly not wish to lay on your midriff outside, however, if you switch on the macro function on the camera and start to discover the environment in smaller depth, you will be rewarded by way of unique pictures in contrast to everything you have ever imaged previously.

Creating the Perfect Exposure

Have you ever wondered what makes a perfect exposure? To answer this question, first we have to know the perfect exposure has three variable elements: shutter speed, aperture and ISO (which in the old days was called film speed). Together, these three make up the Golden Triangle and in this article and Part II, we will see how they work together in making the perfect exposure.

Shutter Speed:

Shutter speed refers to how long the curtain (and lens diaphragm) stay open. When the shutter button is pressed, the diaphragm or aperture in the lens opens while at the same time, the curtain travels across the sensor opening, thereby exposing the sensor for length of time you selected as the shutter speed. At the end of that time, both the curtain and diaphragm have closed. The higher the shutter speed, the faster they open and close. The faster this happens, the less light strikes the camera's sensor.

Typical shutter settings are B... 2 sec, 1 sec, 1, 2, 4, 8, 15, 30, 60, 125, 250, 500, 1,000.... Some DSLRs have settings as long as 30 seconds and as short as 1/8,000 second. From 1 second and down all the settings are expressed in full seconds. As you go up the scale from 1 second, each setting is expressed as a fraction of a second. Therefore, 500 is really 1/500th of a second. Each successive setting up the scale keeps the shutter open half as long as the previous setting.

Shutter speed controls action, but the amount needed to show action varies with the direction, distance and speed of the subject. For example, you would need a faster setting to stop an object moving from your left to right than you would to stop that same subject at the same speed if it were moving either toward or away from you. Because you use shutter speed to control action, it can be shown as "frozen" in place by using faster speeds, blurred by using slower speeds, or a combination through a technique called panning.

Panning works well when your subject is moving from one side to the other, such as in a horse or car race. To using panning, track your subject in your viewfinder. At some point when the subject is in front of you, press the shutter button. Don't stop tracking your subject while taking the picture. Otherwise you subject will be past you by the time your aperture opens and closes. The effect is your subject will be in focus and the background blurred. Nice! In Part II, we will cover the other two sides of the Golden Triangle - Aperture and ISO.

About Photo Tips and Hints

If you are thinking about taking up photography, or already have and are looking for ways to improve then here are a few hints and tips:

   1. Get down to your subjects' level - This can be especially useful for photography involving kids or pets. It allows the photographer to capture more of the subject and is less intimidating

   2. Take your time - Good photography requires finding the right subject and patience. It involves constantly developing and wanting to grow.

   3. Decide carefully on your background - This inevitably comes down to what it is you're photographing but if you are focusing on one subject then make sure the background isn't to cluttered, it may result in shifting the viewers' attention elsewhere.

   4. Use the flash option, not just at night but it the daytime outdoors as well - This tip isn't really applicable for sunny days but if the background is cloudy then a flash can lighten dark shadows and brighten faces as well as bringing them out from the background.

   5. Get in closer - For a more powerful photograph, fill the picture with as much subject as you can. This will eliminate background distraction and will allow you to capture as much detail as you can,

   6. Remember the benefits of vertical pictures - It feels natural to take a photo landscape but a vertical photo can sometimes bring a whole different perception to the photograph. Try it out and see how it feels!

   7. Place your pictures off centre - This can immediately bring an element of life to your photographs. Most cameras are programmed to function around whatever subject is in the middle so remember to adjust the focus settings for a sharper picture.

   8. Check the range of your flash option - With the majority of cameras, if the subject is too far away the effects of the flash button with make the subject appear darker and shadowed. Try and get within a few feet for the flash button to be effective.

   9. Watch for shadows - Natural sunlight is a fantastic way to bring out the best within your photographs but it can produce darkening shadows that can ruin your shot if they aren't accounted for.

  10. Don't be afraid to direct! - If you are photographing people as your main subject matter, don't be afraid to ask them to move about if you think they would look better rearranged elsewhere then tell them so! Use props/different lighting/different angles. Good photography is about experimenting! Try as many different things as you can.

Creative Ways To Get Great Photos of Children

Taking photos of kids can be a slow and consuming task. What child wants to sit still and smile and have you tell them over and over to look happy. Asking a child to give you a pose usually results in awkward and strange looks that are far from their normal look. You have to realize that as a photographer that if you give ask a child to do something specific. You are going to get a totally opposite response. Isn't that what most children do most of the time with everyday life. So, you are going to have to get a little creative if you want to get that perfect shot.

There is something to be said about learning from your mistakes. That's something that being a photographer for over 15 years now I've tried to live by. I realized I had to take a different approach when trying to photography toddlers and pre teenagers. Getting them to feel comfortable and help them relax. Will pay off in the end when you see the shots you were able to get. If they are nervous or grumpy it's going to show in your pictures. So, I've put together are few techniques that I've developed over the years.

Here are a few tips that I follow for photographing children:

1. Try something a little different from what you've been taught. Standing still and traditional posing rarely work. Have them walk around and explore. Let them play in the dirt or walk around and chase a butterfly. You'll get great pictures by letting them do what they do naturally. Allowing them to be natural you'll get that great smile that you would most likely not get in a traditional pose. Your job as a photographer is to get the best shot. Forcing your subject to fake a smile and give an uncomfortable look isn't what they are paying you to do.

2. Getting a great smile or expression from a child isn't the most important aspect of your shoot. There are many expressions that children display. Whether it be a frown or just a funny face. These are all part of allowing them to act naturally. Interacting with a child is also a great way to get them to open up and ask you questions. This is another way to get them to show expression through body movement and visually. You can ask them a question about how much they like their brother or sister? You may get an expression that you would have never gotten had you not asked. These are some of the best shots you'll get.

3. As adults we sometime forget how much of our world is different from a child's world. Our point of view is obviously different because of our size. Get down to their level and allow them to see what they see. This could mean you getting down on your knees or even laying down on the ground. Taking pictures from this perspective will give your shots a more natural feel. The shots will give a better angle than ones from higher up

4. If you find yourself getting great shots don't stop. If you put your camera aside for even a moment. You'll probably miss a great shot. Keep shooting and allow the candid shots to keep moving along. If they are playing and they are trying to play to the camera. Don't let them know you aren't taking pictures of them trying to pose. Just keep the camera up long enough and they will go back to playing and acting natural.

5. Camera settings are always important and it's no exception when shooting children. Use a high ISO setting for quick movement. You can use a lower ISO is your subject is not running all over the place. You'll be able to get some great action shots if you use the correct settings on your camera. It's just a matter of figuring out what works best for your specific situation.

6. Location also can play an important role in getting the child to act more naturally. Taking them to a favorite park or playground that they are used to will help as well. You might even try taking them at their home. Studio settings don't always produce great shots when your trying to get candid shots. It's all about familiarity and helping them to relax. If you take them to an area they have never been before. You'll probably have a child that's a little uneasy about the whole situation. This again will lead to less desirable shot.

7. Candid photography is a way of taking pictures without your subject even realizing you are taking pictures of them. Since the child knows your there it's going to be difficult to get that perfect candid shot. Put your camera down for a little while and just let them play. After a few minutes slowly make your way back over to your camera. The child will probably not even notice at this point that you've picked the camera back up. Just make sure if at anytime during the shoot that if your subject gets annoyed or doesn't want you taking anymore pictures of them. You have to put your camera aside and give it a little time for them to get comfortable again. It's possible you may have to reschedule your session for another day. This is what makes shooting children so difficult. In some cases, things indeed may be no more complicated than that. If you're planning to find a good outfit for a major event, however, like Halloween or Mardi Gras, you need to remember that you won't be the only one. The competition for a good outfit, in itself, will add some snags into the mix. There are other concerns as well. Here are some tips you can use to make sure everything goes as smoothly as you hoped.

Reserve Early

This is one of the best things you can do to make sure you get the costume rentals you really want. If you're simply planning for a themed birthday party or a private masquerade ball, it may not be necessary to reserve the outfit you really want that far in advance. If you're planning for an event that many thousands of people will be celebrating, however, you have to take that into consideration. If you show up at the shop the day before the event, don't be surprised when most of the good outfits have already been snatched up. Go early and inquire about the reservation policy.

Cost

How much you want to spend on costume rentals will also depend on the kind of event you're planning for. If it's a kid's birthday party, you probably don't want or need to spend a whole lot of money. Many adults, however, make the mistake of getting something cheap when the occasion really calls for something a little more put together. Most shops will have a good selection of both expensive and inexpensive outfits. If you're going to a classy event -- or even one where you have to be sure your costume doesn't fall apart by the end of the night -- you might want to consider spending a little more.

Length of Time

One of the surest ways to see costume rentals go through the roof in terms of cost is to keep your outfit longer than what you had originally arranged. Shops need their outfits back in the store to service all of their customers. It isn't fair to the shop to keep a costume longer than that, and they have every right to charge you extra for the additional days. You may find this extra charge to be considerably more than what it would have cost to simply rent the outfit for a longer time to begin with. Make sure you know exactly how long you'll need to keep it before you decide on a rental time.

Where to Find Cheap Wedding Photographers?

Photographers are very much in demand as all the occasions are becoming commercial and a means of increasing PR. The need of a great professional photographer for shooting the entire wedding function is not just desirable, but is also very important for a memorable wedding.

Weddings have now become so commercial and expensive that most people have next to nothing left moneywise for their honeymoon after a grand wedding celebration. Starting from the wedding dresses, gowns, renting out halls, decorations and serving guests, little is left for a very important part of the wedding, which is wedding photography. Most couples want those memorable moments photographed, so they can look on them for years ahead.

The question is how to get a great wedding photographer to make your event more memorable, while still staying in budget?

The task may be difficult, but if you have done advanced and detailed research on cheap wedding photographers, then you are that much closer to finding yours.

1. First of all, you have to make your wedding budget and allocate funding to prevent any potential problems or issues later.

2. The next step is to search while using all your resources to look for a professional but cheap wedding photographer in your locality (it is better to look for a photographer in your area, so that you don't have to pay them travel expenses and also it becomes easier for you to access them anytime). Look online and your phone book.

3. You can look on internet for affordable and professional wedding photographers in your area or city.

4. You can also take the help of your friends and family if they know any professional wedding photographer.

5. After you have found your desired photographer, negotiate over the price of wedding pictures and portraits, while staying in your budget.

6. Affordable photographers are hard to find, so make sure you sign an agreement with them to confirm their availability on your wedding day.

7. In order to make sure, you have chosen a good photographer, it is always advised to see previous photos or work for reference.

8. In order to make your wedding pictures memorable, always discuss in detail with your photographer about your demands and wishes so that he can take desired photos.

Ten Funny Webcomics for When You're Bored

So you're looking for some new webcomics to keep you entertained? You might have already heard of the usual ones: xkcd, Cyanide & Happiness, and so on (if not you're making progress already!) but something different and fresh wouldn't do any harm, right?

Here's 10 to get you started:

   1. Optipess (.com) - This is one of my personal favourites - I'm surprised at how few people know about it too. The comics are heavily picture-based as opposed to using a lot of speech, which always makes for a more casual, natural read.
   2. Antics (anticscomic.com) - The non-conventional artistic style holds some of this comic's humour in itself. The majority, however, is formed through the quirky random nature of the comics.
   3. Perry Bible Fellowship (pbfcomics.com) - This comic is appreciated all round for its simplicity and bluntness. Better known than some of the others here, but for good reason, it's cleverly original.
   4. Hark, A Vagrant! (harkavagrant.com) - Here's one with quite an alternative style. Not only is it styled in an old-fashioned manner, but the comics are unlike any other - in a good way though, the comic has had it's fair share of good press.
   5. Buni (bunicomic.com) - These comics follow the story of a blissfully ignorant rabbit who has the worst luck, but always takes spontaneous happiness out of the worst situations. Like many good comics, this one doesn't rely on speech - doesn't need it to walk the jokes through.
   6. Undeclared Major (undeclaredcomics.com) - Aimed (not exclusively) at students, this comic focusses on school related troubles and situations - made relatable through the funny representation of common school happenings.
   7. A Softer World (.com) - A comic style you're least likely to come across - the use of real-world pictures as background for thoughtful caption comments, taking a refreshingly positive outlook to brighten your day.
   8. Loading Artist (.com) - Probably the most recognised among this list, it's popularity reflecting the quality. These comics have a simple but professional style to them and their humour seems to be all-round appealing.
   9. For Lack of a Better Comic (.com) - Unlike the title suggest, this itself is actually a very good comic, focussing on the mis-adventures of day-to-day life and representing them in a humorous form.
  10. Space Avalanche (.com) - A personal favourite of mine. Although it isn't updated often, when it is, it's definitely worth checking out. The very picture-story style can be hard to get into at first, but after a few comics you'll appreciate it.

Since I'm feeling generous, make that 11: Basic Instructions (.com) is a satirical guide on how to perform day-to-day mannerisms.

That's just a taster of some of the great webcomics lurking in the internet. But naturally, you'll want more - but they're not too easy to find, or maybe they weren't "undiscovered" enough for you?

What Acting Class Can Do for Kids

Some parents think about enrolling their kids in an acting class as a bad idea. What they often assume is that their children are just kids who just want to be seen on television and so letting their kids join in a class like this is just a waste of money. These classes teach children all the basics of acting. But what parents do not know is that there are more things that children learn with every acting session they attend. Actually, a lot of great skills are being learned by kids through classes in acting. They also learn things that are very essential for them to grow as well-rounded individuals. Some likewise offer free acting auditions with professional actors as judges.

Proper speaking is one of the skills that a first-rate acting class teaches to kids. The kids learn how to properly pronounce words, control the volume of their voice and elocution as well. The reading skills of kids are also built. Problems with regard to speaking can be worked through. Classes in acting can correct any speech problem of children and at the same time build their confidence to speak clearly. These likewise teach kids how to speak in front of many people and overcome their stage frights.

Acting classes also help children develop their memory skills. A large part of an actor's or actress' job is memorization and so the classes teach kids how to memorize. A lot of techniques and tips are taught to kids so they can easily and quickly memorize pieces and scripts. Children learn how to memorize things without even thinking about them. This skill that they can learn through acting classes can be very useful throughout their entire life.

Creativity has always been a part of these classes. The kids are encouraged to free their minds and improvise, act interesting parts and pretend. Anything goes in an acting class. The kids can make themselves look silly or they can be as serious as they desire. There is no such word as 'too creative' in such scenario. So, the kids can freely exercise their imaginations. The kids are actually encouraged to become more creative.

Turning kids into good actors or actresses is the goal of every good acting class. The kids are also taught of things that they will surely find to be useful as they grow up; things that cannot be bought by money. Becoming a part of free acting auditions being offered by some these classes will surely give great experience for kids.

Highlight of Second Life Art

Getting back into Second Life and enjoying art from a new perspective has been fun! I get to tour all the galleries that as a museum and art gallery owner, you don't have time to see!

It's also fun discovering new things on the Second Life art scene. One of the biggest discoveries is that Linden Labs has endowed the SL arts, "Linden Endowment for the Arts (LEA). They offer "land" free of rental fees to up and coming artists in Second Life. The committee, formed of famous and respected Second Life artists make up this committee, has an art gallery sandbox and new artists seeking funding can display their work here.

Once a month, the committee members meet at the sandbox and vote on the best art based on pre-agreed upon criteria. Then the artist who won the votes gets of have land for their art for three months. Touring the LEA lands is fun and inspiring. Some great examples is LEA6, which features, Dante's Nine Levels of Hell and Catharsis, which is a 24-minutes of machinima magic!

Another new artistic discovery is 3D and kaleidoscope artwork. The 3D art is just that 3D and can be any subject matter. The kaleidoscope art is very popular and it's just like looking through your kaleidoscope when you were a kid and seeing all the lovely colors. The art moves and rotates just like a kaleidoscope.

The jump in good scripted artwork is amazing! This type of art is also called interactive art (with your Avatar). Sometimes you touch the picture and blocks come out of the picture or you stand and the artwork "does" something with you!

The new sculptors in Second Life are introducing new styles and designs such as the artistic spheres, where you have an environment that is not dependent on the Second Life viewer allowing the artist more control over the sky and ground.

However, the most popular artwork in the galleries that I have toured is Second Life photography. Some artists touch up their artwork in Photoshop; others brag that their work is untouched!

This gives my creativity an outlet and a forum to display my art! I do not consider myself in the same league as Spiral Silverstar, Feathers Boa, Milly Sharple, to name a few, but I still love art and want to share what I find to be picture perfect in Second Life! I also highlight galleries that are closing and that have been in Second Life for as long as I have been there and only a few remain.

I was amazed to discover Primtings, which takes a real life artwork by a Master and then they make it 3D and display the original picture beside the 3D one, giving new meaning to, "making art come to life." This type of art was displayed on another sim under a different name when I first came into SL and it was fun to rediscover this fun style of art, especially since the original 3D museum closed.

Artists bring their Real Life art projects in to Second Life and ask for volunteers to participate. I did participate in a new and exciting project in SL called, "1000+ Avatar Project" by Gracie Kendall. It's an amazing undertaking featuring you as an avatar and how people view themselves!
